The dentist can use a surgical mallet to manually impart an impacting force to the proximal end of the instrument. It can have a straight or bayonet-shaped handle and a pointed, round or concave tip at the distal end, which may be marked with various graduations according to different dephts. Used for ridge expansion, bone condensiation and sinus floor elevation procedures.
6 – 8 – 11 – 15 mm – For lateral bone condensation, with rounded tip to minimize the risk of perforating the Schneiderian membrane.
